Meteorite Check Privacy Policy

Operated by Treasure Coast Meteorite Co., LLC ("we," "us," "our").

Last updated: June 19, 2026

Meteorite Check helps you screen a rock to estimate whether it is worth getting tested. It gives you a screening estimate, not a confirmation. This policy explains what we collect when you use the app, why we keep it, and the choices you have. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than legalese.

The short version: Your photo is used only to produce your result and is not kept. We do not store the photo after analysis, and we do not sell your personal information. We keep a record of your screening answers, with no photo and nothing that identifies you, and you can ask us to delete it at any time at contact@meteoritecheck.com.

What we collect

We do not ask for your name, an account, or contact details to run a screening. Contact details are collected only if you choose to send a referral, as described under “Sending a referral to a partner laboratory.” If you choose to contact us, send a specimen for testing, or reach our store, that is a separate step that you start, with its own information.

How we use what we collect

How your photo is processed

When you request photo analysis, your image is sent to our analysis provider, processed to generate your result, and then discarded. We do not save the photo to our database or to file storage, and we do not build a library of submitted images. The image may be resized before processing. The provider acts on our behalf under an agreement that limits it to providing the service to us, and is a service provider, not a buyer of your data. The providers we rely on are: Anthropic (AI image analysis, processed transiently and not retained by us), Supabase (database, which stores your screening answers record only, with no photo), and Upstash (rate limiting).

What we do not do

Links to testing labs and our store

When the tool flags a strong candidate, it may offer links to an independent testing laboratory or to our own store. These are separate websites with their own privacy policies. We do not control them, and clicking out to them is your choice. We screen rocks; we do not perform testing or classification ourselves.

Sending a referral to a partner laboratory

If your screening reaches a strong-candidate result, you can choose to send a referral to the partner laboratory for your region. This is optional. You can skip it and still use everything else, including downloading your own summary to send yourself.

If you choose to send a referral, we collect the details you enter for it: your email address, which is required so the laboratory can reply to you, and optionally your first name and where you found the specimen. We then send the laboratory a one-page summary of your screening responses together with the contact details you provided, so they can follow up with you about testing. We do this only on your explicit consent, recorded at the time you send the referral.

Once a referral is sent, the laboratory receives your information as an independent recipient and handles it under its own privacy terms, not ours. We share these details only with that laboratory and only for this purpose. You can ask us to delete the copy we keep at any time by emailing contact@meteoritecheck.com, though an email already delivered to the laboratory cannot be recalled. The legal basis for this sharing is your consent, which you can decline or withdraw for future referrals.

How long we keep it

We do not keep your photo. It is discarded as soon as your result is produced. We keep a record of your screening answers, which contains no photo and nothing that identifies you, while it remains useful for operating and improving the tool. You can ask us to delete that record at any time.

Your choices

Your regional rights

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information, such as the right to access, correct, or delete it, or to object to certain uses. This can include residents of California and the European Union and other regions. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@meteoritecheck.com.

[Lawyer to confirm whether CCPA, GDPR, or other regional disclosures and rights language are required, and to finalize this section based on where the app is made available.]

Children

This tool is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect submissions from anyone under 13. Photos are not retained. If you believe a child has used the tool, contact contact@meteoritecheck.com and we will delete any associated screening record.

Security

We protect submissions with reasonable safeguards. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle submissions, we will update this notice and the date at the top. Continued use of the tool after a change means you accept the updated policy.
